Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations

Venezuela rejects US interference

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the interventionist and arrogant statement of the President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, who does not recognize the legitimate and constitutional Government of Venezuela.
Blatantly ignoring the Government elected by the people of Venezuela violates the elemental rules and principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, such as the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs, the principle of self-determination of the peoples and sovereign equality of States.

The Venezuelan democratic system, enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, contemplates a series of guarantees for the direct exercise of the will and power of the people like no other in the world. The civil and political rights of the people of Venezuela are fully respected and guaranteed in this sacred land of Liberators.

Can the President of the United States of America affirm that the right to democracy is guaranteed in his country even when its legitimacy derives from a rather vague suffrage, in second degree elections expressed by citizen leadership in electoral colleges? The political system in the United States is profoundly elitist, and it is based on the influence of business capitals instead of on the will of the people. The industrial, military, financial, and media compound is the genuine ruler, in an institutional way, of the United States.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the statements of the President of the United States because these constitute a clear interference in the political life of our homeland, and it openly incites violent factors to overthrow the constitutional and legitimate Government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Our Liberator warned us, over two centuries ago, about the predating role of the US system in the life of our region. Now and forever we repeat, from the anti-imperialist soul of our people, that there is no power that could break the freedom and independence of Venezuela.
We respond to President Obama with the words of our Liberator Simón Bolívar in his letter to Mr. Irvine on 07 October 1818: “It seems that you are trying to compel me to respond to your insults: I will not do so, but I do protest and say that I will not allow you to offend or scorn the Government and rights of Venezuela. A large proportion of our population has disappeared in their defense against Spain, and those who remain, long for deserving such luck. It means the same for Venezuela to fight against Spain than to fight against the whole world, if the whole world offends it”.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela calls its people to raise the anti-imperialist flags in order to defeat the historic US arrogance, in the defense for the self-determination, independence and peace of our Homeland.
