Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations

Social Missions

The missions must be an instrument to speed up the transformation of the bourgeois State to a social State based on the rule of law and justice. The missions must generate a new spirit of service, where there is a lot of creative voluntary work; where functionaries are different, where they have a new socialist, social spirit.

Hugo Chávez Frías

The aim of the Social Missions is to guarantee fundamental rights of the population, with emphasis on the most vulnerable and marginalised sectors. Thanks to Misión Robinson, Venezuela was awarded UNESCO’s “illiteracy-free territory” certification in only two years. The Barrio Adentro Mission has allowed the setting up and continued existence of a network of almost 10,000 doctors, dentists and opticians…with the latest technological equipment. In three years, the Gran Misión Vivienda tripled the rate of home construction of the last four decades.

These are just some achievements of this initiative promoted by Hugo Chávez, who transformed social policy into the policy of State.
